As a Paia resident who lives by the Mill, are there specific plans that the community will be able to weigh in on?  I know you mention there are several opportunities for the community.
What is the overall acreage of the property?

Our immediate focus is to restore the existing Pa’ia Sugar Mill structures, and lease those to local small businesses who can manufacture products at the Mill.

We plan to create spaces where entities can build and maintain apprenticeship and workforce training facilities, advanced manufacturing prototyping centers, and create sustainable energy and power centers.

For the agriculture land, we are focused on working with entities who can build sustainable and diversified agriculture products and garden spaces that showcase new techniques for growth and education.

The acreage is ~45 acres.

What was the previous use of the Mill, its current environmental status, and a plan for the pond depicted?

For many years, the Mill site was used for industrial purposes that supported industrial agriculture. Specific uses included processing, wielding, design, engineering, machine maintenance, transportation, green power generation, and more.

The environmental health of the Mill is a primary concern. Testing and restoration programs began before the Mill was closed down, and continues with the new owners today.

Regarding the pond, the partnership has no plans to restore it as it is not part of the Pa'ia Sugar Mill parcel.

Is there any plan for building materials  (insulation, structural wood) that could be used for construction/reconstruction?

Re-use or repurposing existing building materials is an ongoing effort. We will renovate existing structures and and re-use what is available.

What types of manufacturing are being considered?
Does the zoning support live, work, retail, ag or just industrial?
[More general] What types of zoning does the Mill support for building structures?

We are open to ideas for manufacturing throughout the Mill site. Providing spaces for local manufacturers is primary. This could include food-related products, value-added building materials, power, new forms of energy production, and more.

At this time, the land use for the Mill site allows for industrial type uses in the existing buildings and agricultural related uses for the open land. There is potential to erect structures to support county and government related uses such as recreation centers, hula studios or other community based service.  There is also the potential to create an adjacent housing project that supports the live-work-walk-learn concept.

At what point will you have written proposals and plans for the community to view and share their ideas?

We are currently in Phase 1, which includes renovating existing Paia Mill buildings, and putting them into use via leasing to local manufacturing businesses.

There are no master plans available at this time.

Additionally, we’re hosting monthly “Talk Story” and On-Site Tour events to connect with the community and gather feedback. We invite you to fill out our Google Form HERE so we can answer any questions you may have.  Learn more about our events and register HERE
